Press Release 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Join Global Harmony Community Chorus as we present “Songs of the Earth” – a benefit for Trees, Water and People. Global Harmony is an interfaith, 110-voice community choir that has been “singing to make a difference” for the past seven years. The concerts presented annually by Global Harmony have raised over $102,000 for global relief efforts, starting as a response to the Indian Ocean Tsunami in late 2004.
This year the concerts will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 pm (childcare provided) and 7:30 pm, as well as Sunday, February 13 at 3:00 pm at North Como Presbyterian Church in Roseville at the corner of Larpenteur and Victoria. Each year the choir performs three free concerts and donates 100% of the free-will offering to the beneficiary. This year, the offering will go to benefit the Tribal Lands Renewable Energy Program of the non-profit organization Trees, Water and People (TWP) that is dedicated to helping people and the planet.
TWP’s Tribal Lands Renewable Energy Program puts the power of nature to work for Native Americans using the warmth of the sun and the power of the wind in some of the poorest communities of the United States, making a difference in the financial and physical viability of those in the communities. Global Harmony Community Chorus is ready to help support this powerful outreach program.
Joining us for the concerts will be Henry Red Cloud, great-great grandson of Chief Red Cloud and founder of Lakota Sioux Enterprises, one of the first Native American-owned and operated renewable energy companies. For his efforts in sustainable energy, Red Cloud recently was awarded the “Nuclear-Free Future Award.”
We are also pleased to welcome Brent Michael Davids, a nationally-known Native American composer who focuses his pieces by using indigenous music in a contemporary setting. As our composer-in-residence this year, Davids will bring traditional instruments of his own design including quartz crystal flutes. Among various other works, the chorus will present Davids’ “Native America Suite” and “Spring Wind Dances at the River.” For more information, see www.globalharmonychorus.org.
